If you own a small business, you understand how busy you can be. You have to wear many hats and your time is all over the place. Read on to find out how you can find some more time in your day to be able to work on the future of your business instead of just the present.
Here are 5 things that you can do to free up more time in your business:
1. Schedule your email and return phone calls. Pick 2-4 actual times in the day that you will check and respond to these things. Do not feel as if you have to reply to every email as it comes in. The constant replying and phone calling continuously pauses your projects and keeps you from finishing tasks. If you chunk your email and phone time into blocks you will get it done quicker.
2. Outsource your customer service and phone answering. Have someone take messages and field questions for you.
3. Create an Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) area on your website, where customers can go and answer their own questions BEFORE they try contacting you for a reply.
4. Fire your worst customers. The customer is not always right. Most often 80% of our income comes from the easiest customers to work with. If you have a customer that takes all of your time and gives you little in return, stop doing business with them. It will be amazing as to how much time you get back.
5. Be careful of spinning your wheels. Are you running around doing busy work all day, but getting nothing done? Create a daily 3-4 item to-do list that you must complete before the end of the day. You need to work with a guideline or the little meaningless things will fill your time for you.
