When it comes to money, many people have a very difficult time determining between their needs and wants. This would be very important, especially if you are not saving any money or even having a hard time buying all of your bills.
Needs
Needs are anything that you have to have in order to live. Just to mention some of the very basic needs, a roof over your head, good food to eat (not crap that is bad for your health), clothing and money for utilities. Transportation is another one, you can own it or pay to ride, but few people today can just walk wherever they need to go.
Wants
Wants are anything that you buy that does not directly affect your life or health. Things like cable TV, a cell phone with a land line too. Take a look at what you buy at the grocery store for your food. Do you really need the soda pop when a good drink of water will do you better?
Even if you buy a water filter pitcher to filter your drinking water with, you will still save from buying the pop every week. It will not only save you money, but very well could save your health and health care costs. Food is where a lot of people could cut back and even get rid of some extra weight.
When we really sit down and take a good hard look at what we buy every month, most of our products would fall under the wants and not the needs category. So if you find that you are tight on money, I would take a month and write down every time that you spend money.
Keep track of everything that you bay, even if it is only on a donuts for less than a dollar. You will be surprised at how fast all of these little things add up. Real needs most of the time will not ad up to as much as you are spending on wants.
However, we really do not want to lead boring to do nothing lives. Yes we like our cable TV and supper fast Internet, even the 50 pairs of shoes some people have. We can live and enjoy life, but we also could be a little better at what we chose to spend money on.
